I feel like I'm this midst of a comeback. The part that is difficult for me is continuously re-motivating myself to try again. It took so much effort to become a pastor. Now to go back to interviewing, proving I'm good enough, establishing relationships, and learning new things seems daunting. I'm learning that I need to discipline myself more. Develop a routine. Apply to x# of jobs each day. Put on clothes every morning. It was good to go through the Bible a bit and reread stories of people who have lost their esteemed positions (i.e. Daniel, David, Joseph). They all learned things during their downtime that were necessary to thrive once they had an opportunity for what you call a 'comeback'. David for instance learned a lot as a farmer. Two skills in particular: patience and sling control. He needed both to defeat the Goliath. No other warrior had those traits. His discipline in learning what was in front of him, even though it wasn't great, helped him take advantage of the opportunity he had to make his comeback. Too bad he wasted it writing a bunch of sissy Psalms (joking of course). Thanks for the thought catalyzer, Joe.

Re: Lutherans phase out Holy Spirit

Yes Peggy! I am 100% about grace - but I think it's because of the grace of God that we are thrown out of our comfort zones in faith on God's promises to us. "Comfort faith" seems too passive ... like we'll never be challenged - and I think the Gospel calls us to live a balance between comfort and challenge ...

I think I understand what you're trying to convey - but I'm not sure "comfort" is the best adjective. I LOVE your longer elevator pitch - I think it strikes that balance.

Great first shot at this! I know creating my elevator pitch helped me to really identify what I wanted to write about - I hope it's been a good challenge to you as well.
Re: Going up? {31dbbb}

I like it! You should know that 15 mins a day is probably not gonna cut it LOL. We just spent over 2 hours. Since neither of us has ever read the bible and don't understand it very well we got a book called Life Application Study Bible. It has footnotes pretty much for every verse and how it can apply to daily life. This is taking ALOT longer but we really like it so far. Good luck to anyone else trying this!!!

Re: Advent Devotions: Christmas Lights

This was an extreme pick me up!
